EXERCISE #3 GUIDELINES
The exercise consists of translations of, and commentary on a Greek or Latin poetic text of ca. 30-40 lines of your choice. You will need to submit each of the following items in a single (double-spaced) document to D2L by 11:59pm on April 21:
(1) a grammatical translation of your passage (see instructions for Exercise #1); please include a copy of the Greek or Latin text you used;
(2) a translator’s preface (of at least 2 pp./500 words: see instructions for Exercise #2) on your translation;
(3) your translation, executed in accordance with your preface;
(4) a translator’s commentary consisting of notes on at least 10 specific problems (e.g. linguistic, stylistic, aesthetic, cultural, interpretative, phonic, etc.) you encountered in making choices of translation (Sample Notes).
(5) all Works Consulted (grammars, lexica, commentaries; scholarly books, chapters and articles; published translations).
